Camborne Park just too strong for Cougars

 Camborne Park 40 - 32 Liskeard Cougars

Starting Line up: GK Sarah Skews, GD Vicki Hastings, WD Debbie Drinkell, C Amie Hoskin, GA Lisa Webb, GS Gaby Duffey. RES Erin Down

After a late arrival to the venue Cougars were forced straight onto court with no warm up. This showed in the opening few minutes as Camborne Park took an early lead of 7 goals. From the outset this was a physical match with some hard contests in the defending circle, the height advantage of Skews and Hastings breaking up the attacking play of Camborne Park. By the end of the first quarter Cougars settled and long range shots from Webb and some fast play by Duffey saw Parks lead cut to just 3 goals.

No change was made at quarter time but again Camborne Park led the way making key interceptions at the Cougars attacking end and converting each one. The end of the second quarter saw Park double their goal tally whilst Cougars added 7.

An injury sustained by Collins late in the 2nd quarter saw Hoskin in her more familiar position WA at the start of the second half with new player Erin Down replacing Drinkell at WD who moved to centre. Camborne Park showed no sign of tiring and again drew away at the beginning of the quarter. Cougars had the better of the play in the last few minutes of the third quarter however, with the fresh legs of Down proving more than a match for Camborne Park's WA. Tight defending by Skews and Hastings and fast attacking play by Drinkell and Hoskin into Webb in the circle ensured a tighter game was played.

Cougars began the final quarter with a 12 goal deficit, but with 3 quick goals and key interceptions by Hastings, Cougars' fast attacking play in the forth quarter disrupted the rhythm of the Camborne Park girls. Although Park had done enough in the two preceding quarters to ensure a victory, Cougars can be happy with their play and won the last quarter by 4 goals. Cougars Player of the Match was again Gaby Duffey for her movement in the circle and accurate shooting in the last quarter despite very competitive marking by a very tall GK.
