TIGERS CONTINUE TO MOVE UP THE TABLE WITH A WIN AGAINST HAYLE

Tigers   37 - 30   Hayle 2

Starting Line-up: GK Lucy Smale, GD Vicki Hastings, WD Holly Lemon, C Julia Eldridge, WA Jo Glossop, GA Amie Hoskin, GS Sophie Hocking. Res. Emma Dalton

Coming off the back of two consecutive wins, Tigers were keen to continue this run when they welcomed Hayle’s second string to Lux Park.

The home side came flying out of the blocks, going 3 goals up with no reply. Hayle started to settle and tried to find their feet but Liskeard were in control and took the quarter 10-7.

Encouraged by their first quarter, and with Dalton replacing Eldridge in centre, the Tigers continued to stretch their lead. GD Vicki Hastings and WD Holly Lemon worked hard to keep the strong GA out of the circle, with GK Lucy Smale forcing the GS into some long range attempts which Liskeard were able to turnover and force back down the court. Again the circle work was paying off with some lovely quick ball from Dalton and WA Jo Glossop which couldn’t be matched by the Hayle defence. Liskeard took the quarter 11 goals to 6 giving the side a good 21 - 13 lead going into the second half.

Both GA Amie Hoskin and GS Sophie Hocking had a tough second half, struggling against the strong, forceful defence. However, through patience and persistence they worked hard for every chance at goal and with the defence at the other end working equally as hard Liskeard again managed to extend their lead, ending the quarter 30 - 18

Going into the last with a 12 goal cushion, Liskeard nearly threw away all their hard work. Hayle made changes in both attack and defence and very much put their all into the final 15 minutes. Liskeard stopped playing their own game and had to battle hard to keep the lead. Hayle won the quarter 12 goals to 7 but fortunately for the Tigers, they had done the hard work early on and won the game 37-30.

Captain Holly Lemon was pleased with the win, saying “I am really impressed with our overall performance, at times we played some fantastic netball and our hard work in training is really starting to show. We let ourselves down towards the end, making silly mistakes and nearly giving the game away but we held out for the win and that’s what matters.

We are now looking forward to hopefully continuing our winning streak when St Agnes come to Lux Park on the 8th December.”
